About This Course

The course provides an in-depth conceptual introduction to the field of Islamic bioethics and will examine the practical and theological ethics of medical issues in Muslim contexts and from an Islamic perspective. The course will cover key concepts within Islamic theology, epistemology, and fiqh pertaining to modern day medicine. The course will conclude with applying principles discussed in the course, to contemporary medical cases.

Shaykh Dr Rafaqat Rashid

Shaykh Dr Rafāqat Rashid is a traditional Muslim scholar, General Practioner, professional trainer and educator. He graduated from Jāmiah Khātamun Nabiyeen (JKN) Islamic Institute, Bradford, having been taught advanced Islamic disciplines consisting of Islamic Law, Theology, Arabic Language, Usūl al-Fiqh, Usūl al-Tafsir, Usūl al-Hadeeth, Hanafi Fiqh, Tafsir and a study of the six main canonical books of Hadeeth. His main teacher and spiritual guide, being Shaykh Mufti Saiful Islām.

Mufti Abdur Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Mufti Abdur Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Shaykh Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf Mangera is a British Muslim scholar educated in both the Islamic and Western traditions. He memorised the Qur’an by heart and graduated from the Darul Uloom seminary Bury, UK, and later earned a specialized licence to issue fatwa (legal responses) at Mazahir ‘Ulum Saharanpur, India. He earned his BA from the University of Johannesburg and completed his MA and PhD in Islamic Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. He holds an honorary fellowship at the Cambridge Muslim College and at The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, Amman, Jordan.

Mufti Muhammed Zubair Butt

Mufti Muhammed Zubair Butt is British born and committed the Holy Qur’an to memory at the age of 16 before going onto receiving Ijazahs in the ten variant recitals of the Holy Qur’an at the Institute of Islamic Education, Dewsbury, UK. He has studied traditional Islamic sciences, including Arabic language and literature, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Hadith, Usul al-Hadith, Tafseer, Usul al-Tafseer, and completed the Shahaadah al-‘Aalamiyyah at Darul Uloom Karachi, Pakistan in 1995. In 1997 he graduated from his post graduate specialization in the issuance of fatwa – legal edicts under the instruction of the world renowned Shaykh Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani.

Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam Al Kawthari

Shaykh Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari is a traditionally-trained Islamic scholar who has studied the Arabic language and various other traditional Islamic sciences including Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), Hadith and Fiqh in different parts of the world including the UK, Pakistan and Syria. His Shuyukh/teachers include his father, Shaykh Mawlana Adam, Shaykh Yusuf Motala, Shaykh Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, Shaykh Abd al-Razzaq al-Halabi and others.
